Voice, gender, and breaking silence are at the heart of Emily’s music. Her intimate folk songs float between genres, telling candid stories on banjo and piano. She also writes compositions for voice and chamber ensemble, where history and the present day intertwine over intricate instrumental textures.
Emily is a founding member of The Early Mays, an old-time, vocal harmony trio that topped the National Folk-DJ charts and was featured twice on NPR’s Mountain Stage.
